A Church with purpose seeks to base both its vision and its mission on the word of God. In the same way, this type of church is built on values as presented in the great commission and the great commandment of Jesus Christ, which have been granted to his people.
The Great Commandment
“Jesus said to him: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is similar: You will love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. " Matthew 22:37-40
The Great Commission
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit; teaching them to keep all the things I have commanded you; and behold, I am with you every day, until the end of the world. Amen.” Matthew 28: 19-20
Values
Worship
- "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind."
- Worship is our way of celebrating our God and at the same time our reason for living.
- Everything we do in and outside the church must be initiated by this value: We love God and we want to honor him with and in everything.
- It is our way of offering sacrifices today. (Romans 12: 1).
- In our corporate worship, it is more than just music. It is, among many other things, praying (Psalm 95: 6), hearing the word (John 17:17), offering (1 Cor. 16: 1 and 2), baptizing (Rom. 6: 3 and 4), and participate in the ceremonies (1 Cor. 11: 23-26).
Discipleship
- "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations."
- Discipleship is the way in which the believer is strengthened and grows to be more like Jesus, while being accompanied by another believer in their walk. It is the method used by God to bring us to spiritual maturity, to growth.
- Healthy discipleship flourishes when there are spiritual leaders who are willing to give their all for the spiritual growth of others. Growth that is granted by God Himself.
- Paul wrote: “I planted, Apollos watered; but the growth has been given by God. So neither the one who plants is something, nor the one who waters, but God, who gives the growth. " (1 Cor. 3: 6 and 7)
- It is a constant process. We are all disciples. We all need, intentionally, others in our journey.
Service
- "You love your neighbor as yourself".
- Service is the process by which we meet the needs of others with love.
- Doing good, serving, in love is something that pleases our God. "And do not forget to do good and to help each other, because God is pleased with such sacrifices." Hebrews 13:16
- Through service we connect with our community as Jesus did.
- Ellen White puts it beautifully: “Only Christ's method will be successful in reaching people. The savior dealt with men as whom he desired to do them good. He was sympathetic to them, attended to their needs, and earned their trust. Then he would say to them: follow me ”. (MC, p, 102.)
Evangelism
- “...Teaching them to keep all the things that I have commanded you ”.
- Evangelism is sharing the good news of salvation in Jesus Christ with those who do not yet have a personal relationship with him.
- Evangelism is not what we do on a special week once or twice a year, or what the guest speaker does. Evangelism is a natural and appropriate sharing of what has given us new hope as believers.
- Evangelism without the other 4 values is an incomplete experience. Jesus demonstrated this in his great commission (Matthew 28) when he shared missional, but also relational elements with us.
- Evangelism implies that we want to find the person where they are in life and we intentionally want to share God's word in an inclusive, relevant, and meaningful way.
Fellowship
- “... Baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit ”.
- Fellowship is the opportunity for believers to nurture the social area of the group through purposeful recreational activities.
- God's intention for believers was never for them to live in isolation. God is a relational God and he created us that way too.
- The early church offers us good examples of fellowship. They shared what they had (1 John 1), talked and ate together (Acts 2:42), laughed together (Acts 2:46), and extended their fellowship to the community (Acts 2:47).
- Companionship should be intended to create and strengthen relationships through recreation.
Support Ministries (Administration)
- They work with the administrative part of the church.
- A successful church includes ministries like these that, although they are not seen publicly, fulfill vital tasks for its operation.
- As each system and organ is important in the body, these ministries are also of great value.
